Sturgis Area Arts Council - Event Details

Thursday, June 21 - Monday, June 25
Sturgis Community Center Theater

The Sturgis Area Arts Council's Drama Committee is proud to celebrate its 20th season of summer musicals with its presentation of "Godspell", a reprise of our first show, which was originally produced in 1999.

About Godspell:

This immensely successful rock opera needs little introduction, but when it was first produced on Broadway in 1971 it broke new ground in its stage treatment of the historical Jesus Christ. Based on the Gospel according to St Matthew it deals with the last days of Jesus, and includes dramatized versions of several well-known parables. And yet it is something more - a religious experience, a demonstration of joy, and a celebration of the family of man. The cast are conceived as clowns, improvising scenery and costumes, and using many well-known theatrical devices, pantomime vaudeville and varied musical styles to interpret one of humanity's greatest events.

Performance dates are: Thursday, June 21st, at 7:00pm, Friday, June 22nd, at 7:00pm, Saturday, June 23rd, at 7:00pm, Sunday, June 24th, at 2:00pm and Monday, June 25th, at 7:00 pm.

Performances will be in the Sturgis Community Center Theater. All tickets are for general seating and may be purchased at the door (Cash or check only, please - no cards). To celebrate the 20th season, a reception will be held at the Saturday, June 23rd, performance.
